Bacchiochi Meets with Current, Former Business Owners
STAFFORD — A group of current and retired business owners meets here regularly for informal round table discussions, and given what’s been in the news media lately regarding the state budget they decided to invite someone who knows a thing or two about what’s happening at the Capitol: State Rep. Penny Bacchiochi. She met with a dozen or so people at Mill Pond Country Store today and answered the group’s questions about an anti-business attitude emanating from the Capitol. Bacchiochi told the group about her efforts to roll back policies affecting companies in her district and the state in general, such as the small business entity tax, taxes on electricity and the gasoline tax. Bacchiochi also explained the ideological divide between Republicans and super-majority Democrats who control the statehouse. Republicans such as Bacchiochi, concerned about growing levels of state spending, have called for immediate action on the projected $466 million budget deficit while their counterparts across the aisleĀ have stopped short of saying when they’d tackle Connecticut’s fiscal woes.
