Bacchiochi Scores Favorably in Environmental Review
HARTFORD—Folks who keep an eye on environmental issues here gave state Rep. Penny Bacchiochi a good score for her votes supporting green initiatives in Connecticut. Bacchiochi, who represents the 52nd General Assembly District, scored 85 percent in the annual scorecard issued Thursday by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. Among the environment-related bills supported by Bacchiochi were ones created to protect children—a banning of the toxin BPA (bisphenol-A) in children’s products and a requirement that schools use environment-friendly cleaning products. Bacchiochi also supported legislation aimed at providing dairy farmers with temporary financial support, a bill that not only affects the environment but also our economy.
“I’ve always given careful consideration to issues that affect the quality of life that’s moved so many people raise families here in Connecticut,” said Bacchiochi, who represents Somers, Stafford and Union. “Balancing the pressures exerted by a consumer and development-driven society with the preservation of our state’s natural assets and the welfare of residents isn’t an easy job, but it’s a challenge I’ve enjoyed tackling.”
The scorecard grades lawmakers on their votes on 19 different bills related to the environment. Other bills scored include those on rivers and wetlands, solar power, open space and bottle recycling.
